A 38-year-old man, Robert Gipson, is charged with first-degree murder following a shooting at the Ashley Lake Apartments in Boynton Beach that occurred on August 10. The incident resulted in the death of 30-year-old Berkens Obas, while two other victims, Myolie and Debora Filogene, sustain serious injuries and are currently recovering at a local medical center.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Gipson called 911 claiming self-defense, alleging he shot the victims because he feared for his life. However, witnesses contradict his account, describing the confrontation as a brief verbal altercation rather than a physical threat. As a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, Gipson now faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
