Police have charged four suspects in connection with a drive-by shooting in the Bronx that resulted in the death of 24-year-old Jamari Henry and left four others wounded. The assailants, identified as Heron Martin, 21, Shamir Murray, 19, Kai Oulai, 19, and Jose Gomez, 18, face serious charges, including attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon, with Oulai and Gomez additionally charged with manslaughter. The incident, which occurred in front of a smoke shop on Allerton Avenue, involved suspects who jumped out of a vehicle and opened fire indiscriminately onto the sidewalk.
Wakefield resident Henry was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the injured victims remain in stable condition. Following the shooting, police apprehended five individuals from a car crash nearby. Henry’s mother expressed devastating grief, emphasizing that her son was likely “at the wrong place at the wrong time.” As authorities investigate the motivations behind this violent act, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch noted a decline in shooting incidents in the Bronx this year, despite the surge of violent episodes over the summer. This developing situation underscores ongoing concerns about gun violence in New York City.
