New York to Pay $800K in Church Lawsuit Fees

The State of New York is required to pay more than $817,000 in attorneys’ fees to His Tabernacle Family Church in Horseheads following a court ruling over the state’s attempt to impose a gun-free zone at the church. This decision arises from a lawsuit initiated by the church, which argued that the state’s actions violated its First Amendment rights, a claim supported by a federal appeals court earlier this year.

Pastor Michael Spencer from His Tabernacle noted that the church will not benefit financially from the order, as the awarded amount is allocated entirely to legal fees. He emphasized that the case centers on the infringement of religious freedoms, highlighting a significant intersection between religious rights and gun ownership that has gained attention in recent legal discussions.
