Crimestoppers is calling on Oxfordshire residents to help in the fight against illegal firearms by reporting individuals who did not participate in last month’s gun amnesty. The Thames Valley Police initiative saw 1,185 guns and nearly 24,000 rounds of ammunition surrendered, but with the amnesty over, authorities warn that there will be no leniency for those found in possession of illegal weapons.
Roy Trustram Eve, chairman of Thames Valley Crimestoppers, emphasizes the anonymity of callers, encouraging the public to share information about friends or neighbors who may own unlicensed firearms. With a notable number of prohibited weapons being turned in during the amnesty—particularly 53 in north Oxfordshire alone—officials are now focused on cracking down on remaining illegal arms in the community.
