The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announces a temporary ban on waterfowl hunting at Harwood Lake in Cattaraugus County, effective immediately until September 25. This restriction is necessary to ensure public safety during significant dam rehabilitation work, which includes rebuilding the dam embankment and installing a new spillway.
As the lake is lowered by approximately 3.5 feet for construction, fishing and recreational opportunities will also be impacted. However, other areas of the Harwood Lake Multiple Use Area remain accessible, including certain parking and boat launch areas. Affected hunters are encouraged to check the DEC’s website for alternative locations to pursue their activities.
