On September 5, hundreds of students at duPont Manual High School in Louisville participated in a walkout to protest gun violence and demand stricter gun legislation. Organized by the school’s chapter of Students Demand Action, the event specifically called for a ban on assault weapons in response to a recent shooting in Minneapolis that left two young victims dead and many others injured.
Students, holding orange signs and chanting “no more guns,” emphasized the urgency of their advocacy, with senior Viet Pham highlighting gun violence as the leading cause of death for children and teens. The enthusiastic turnout demonstrated a collective desire for change, as students expressed their disappointment over legislative inaction and called for meaningful dialogue with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.
