Walnut Hills Students Demand Gun Safety Reform

Dozens of students at Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati participated in a walkout to advocate for common-sense gun safety measures, joining a nationwide movement coordinated by the group Students Demand Action. The protest, which took place at noon on Friday, called for specific reforms including a national ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, as well as safe storage laws, reflecting a broader concern among youth regarding gun violence in schools.

Junior Migdalia Lopez, who coordinated the walkout, emphasized the urgency of the cause, stating, “We don’t know when we’re going to be next,” in light of recent tragic shootings. This demonstration draws attention to both the immediacy of the students’ concerns and the growing grassroots efforts to hold lawmakers accountable for gun regulations, as part of a movement that has expanded to include 900 groups across high schools and colleges nationwide.
