Dozens of students at Mill Valley High School in Shawnee, Kansas, staged a walkout on September 5, 2025, to protest gun violence in educational settings. Organized by a group of seniors, the walkout at 11:34 a.m. was sparked by the recent shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church School, which resulted in two young students’ deaths and 17 injuries, highlighting the urgent need for change in school safety measures.
As part of the national movement ‘Students Demand Action,’ students like Elyott Edwards and Madelyn Mulryan expressed their determination to advocate for tighter gun laws. “We’re fighting for those who went to school one day and never came home,” Mulryan stated, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe environment for future generations. Their voices aim not only to honor the victims but also to promote a safer future for all students.
