Two men were arrested in Covelo this weekend on suspicion of weapons-related offenses, after a traffic stop led to the discovery of an assault rifle in their vehicle. Deputy authorities pulled over a car for a headlight violation, only to uncover an unloaded handgun and a loaded rifle classified as an assault weapon in the passenger compartment.
The driver’s license of Fernando Solorio, 30, was suspended, and both he and passenger Cornelio Solorio, 24, now face multiple charges, including possession of a concealed firearm and carrying an illegal weapon in a vehicle. Each is held in Mendocino County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail, prompting concerns about community safety and the prevalence of illegal firearms in the area.
