The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reports a significant rise in illegal devices that convert handguns into automatic weapons, with 25 Glock switches recovered in just the first half of 2025. This reflects a troubling trend; the number of such devices recovered has surged by 95% since 2022, when only 21 converters were found.
Acting U.S. Attorney Robert McGuire highlights the serious dangers these devices pose to public safety, explaining that they enable the firing of up to 14 bullets in less than a second. As law enforcement aims to tackle the distribution of these devices, McGuire emphasizes their connection to more serious crimes, including gang activity. “If you are possessing one of these dangerous items, we are going to find you,” he warns, underscoring the commitment to enhance safety on Nashville streets.
