A Louisiana State Police trooper shot and killed the armed passenger of a vehicle that fled a traffic stop in Houma on Monday afternoon. The incident began as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation when the driver failed to comply with the trooper’s attempts to pull over the car. After the driver reached a dead end on Lake Long Drive, the passenger exited the vehicle armed with a gun, prompting the trooper to open fire and fatally wound him on the scene.
The situation escalated further as the driver attempted to flee again, leading to a pursuit that ended in a crash on La. Highway 1 near Lefort Bypass Road. The driver sustained minor injuries and is expected to be arrested after release from the hospital. State Police detectives are now investigating the shooting, which occurred just before 4 p.m., though further details have yet to be disclosed.
