Former Delaware Governor and Congressman Michael N. Castle has died at the age of 86, according to a family announcement. A moderate Republican, Castle served two terms as governor from 1985 to 1992 before representing Delaware in Congress, where he became known for fostering bipartisan cooperation and advocating for significant educational reforms, including support for the “No Child Left Behind” initiative.
In his political career spanning over four decades, Castle also earned recognition for his commitment to environmental reforms through initiatives like the Environmental Legacy program during his governorship. He is survived by his wife, Jane DiSabatino, and a large extended family, with memorial visitation set for August 21 in Wilmington, Delaware.
