Three ‘La Nuestra Familia’ Gang Members Sentenced

Three members of the “La Nuestra Familia” gang have been sentenced to federal prison terms ranging from 75 to 120 months for their involvement in criminal activities. Thomas “Wax” Lee Weatherwax from Spokane received a 75-month sentence for drug conspiracy and money laundering, while Jacenir “Serio” DaSilva from Moses Lake was sentenced to 120 months for firearm offenses. Jesus “Dizzy” Mirelez from Yakima received 83 months also for gun charges.

As federal authorities intensify their efforts to combat prison gang violence, the U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasizes the dangerous recruitment tactics of La Nuestra Familia, which targets minors and indoctrinates them into a life of crime. Documents reveal that the gang’s principles, established in the 1960s, are non-negotiable and emphasize that new members must prove their loyalty through violence and criminal acts. This ongoing crackdown seeks to disrupt the cycle of recruitment and violence perpetuated by gangs.
