SCOTUS Reviews Second Amendment and Gun Rights Cases

The Supreme Court announces it will hear new cases concerning the Second Amendment, including one that involves federal restrictions on gun possession by individuals who use illegal drugs. Solicitor General D. John Sauer argues that this statute acts as a “modest, modern analogue” to historical prohibitions aimed at “habitual drunkards,” suggesting a complex interplay between drug use and gun rights that could set a significant legal precedent.

In addition, the court declines to review a case regarding “corner crossing,” which touches on hunting rights and land use, leaving a lower court’s decision intact. With around 100 denied petitions and various legal disputes, these developments highlight the court’s evolving stance on contentious issues, making it a crucial moment for both gun rights advocates and public policy analysts in the wake of ongoing debates over Second Amendment interpretations.
