At a recent press conference, volunteer Lindsey Buscher emphasized the importance of policies reflecting community values, advocating for measures like secure gun storage, comprehensive background checks, and restrictions on bulk gun sales to combat trafficking.
Rep. Joan Fitzgerald, who plans to sponsor the forthcoming bills, argues that proactive actions at the point of sale are essential to curbing illegal gun distribution. With advocates scheduled to meet with over 50 state legislators to voice their concerns, momentum is building for legislative action despite a lack of prior support from Republican lawmakers. Advocates highlight the urgency of their message: “We don’t have to live in fear of our loved ones getting shot and killed,” stressing that collective action is vital for community safety.
