Free Gun Safety Event in Yakima Promotes Safe Storage

The Yakima Health District, in collaboration with the Alliance for Gun Responsibility and Safe Yakima Valley, is hosting a giveaway event this Saturday to promote safe firearm storage. Recent research from the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions reveals that only 50% of gun owners use safety devices such as lockboxes or trigger locks, which can significantly reduce the risks of injuries, suicides, and homicides.

This event on October 25 runs from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce, coinciding with a “Shreds and Meds” community initiative. Attendees can collect free lockboxes and trigger locks while receiving important training on their effective use, addressing a crucial gap in gun safety practices within the community.
