In an effort to combat gun violence, local youths organized a forum in Toledo, drawing attention to alarming statistics showing guns as the leading cause of death for children and teens in the U.S. Co-chair Tyvaughn Barnes emphasized the urgency for change, recalling personal experiences with neighborhood violence that fueled his commitment to create safer spaces for young people.
During the event, held in collaboration with Toledo City Council candidates, participants discussed the widespread fear and anxiety linked to gun violence in their communities. Fellow organizer Jiovanni Shelton shared his past experiences with gun-related incidents in Florida, highlighting the need for collective community action to foster safety and improve quality of life.
