ONE Lexington recently held its third annual symposium focusing on strategies to curb gun violence, particularly among the city’s youth. The event comes in the wake of a troubling rise in shootings, with 222 incidents and 10 homicides reported among young adults this year alone.
Despite these alarming numbers, Mayor Linda Gorton noted that Lexington is on track for its lowest number of non-fatal shootings since 2010, emphasizing that every life lost is significant. The symposium featured Devine Carama, Director of ONE Lexington, who outlined the success of their All Hearts on Deck Plan, which has contributed to a 60% decrease in gun violence since 2022 by addressing root causes in local neighborhoods.
