Teen Killed in Accidental Shooting by Best Friend

A 20-year-old man, Bryan Ventura-Ramirez, is charged with second-degree manslaughter after the accidental shooting death of his 17-year-old friend, Robin Moscoso-Hernandez, in North Amityville. Ventura-Ramirez allegedly pointed what he believed to be an unloaded ghost gun at his friend’s chest before pulling the trigger, mistakenly believing it was safe to do so. The tragic incident unfolded in Ventura-Ramirez’s bedroom, where the bullet fatally struck Moscoso-Hernandez before he was rushed to the hospital.

Details surrounding the shooting highlight the risks associated with unregistered firearms, as police discovered a ghost gun and live ammunition in Ventura-Ramirez’s possession. His defense attorney argues that the shooting was a result of a tragic mistake, emphasizing the need to treat all firearms as if they are loaded, regardless of belief. Ventura-Ramirez, who remains in custody, could face 5 to 15 years in prison if convicted, as the case draws attention to issues of gun safety and youth responsibility.
