KNDS, the French-German defense firm, believes its Caesar howitzer has “excellent chances” to succeed in the U.S. Army’s upcoming competition to replace the M777 artillery system. Olivier Fort, a former French artillery colonel and now a marketing executive at KNDS, emphasizes the howitzer’s robust reputation based on successful operations alongside U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, where it demonstrated its long-range firing capabilities.

The army is anticipated to procure around 400 self-propelled howitzers, while KNDS leverages feedback from Ukrainian forces to enhance its gun model. Fort notes the Caesar’s unique deployment amid ongoing conflicts provides it with a competitive edge over rivals such as BAE Systems and Elbit.
