Man Convicted in Mother’s Day Shooting Case

Luis Sepulveda, 53, has been found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Angel Rodriguez during a Mother’s Day cookout in Providence, Rhode Island. After a week-long trial, the jury convicted Sepulveda on multiple gun-related charges linked to the May 2023 incident, which unfolded after a prior argument escalated into violence.

On the night of May 14, 2023, Rodriguez was discovered with a gunshot wound at a family gathering and succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Witnesses reported that Sepulveda fired two warning shots before shooting Rodriguez in the chest and fleeing the scene. His arrest on I-95 shortly afterward led to the recovery of the weapon, further cementing prosecutors’ case against him. Attorney General Peter Neronha remarked on the tragic implications of gun violence, emphasizing the long-lasting effects on families and communities.
