Helena police engage with local residents by hosting a quarterly “Citizens Handgun Safety Course,” aimed at educating the community on safe firearm handling and basic marksmanship. The four-hour class emphasizes crucial firearm safety principles, including always pointing the gun in a safe direction and treating every gun as if it is loaded, providing attendees with vital knowledge for responsible firearm ownership.
“We do this for the community,” says Cacey O’Farril, the police department’s training coordinator, highlighting the importance of fostering relationships between officers and residents. This class not only imparts essential safety skills but also offers participants a chance to connect and learn from experienced firearms instructors in their own neighborhood.
