A Berks County man, Lucas Scott Groff, receives a mitigated sentence for his involvement in a multi-county gun trafficking network, having testified against two key figures in the organization. On October 27, Groff, 29, is sentenced to 39 days served and up to 23 months in jail after admitting to charges including possession of crime instruments and delivery of methamphetamine, alongside his role in manufacturing illegal firearm components using a 3-D printer.
Groff’s cooperation proved valuable, contributing to the convictions of Pottstown residents Keith Michael Chaney and Desmond Tyon Bennett on several firearms-related charges. The investigation revealed the trafficking network operated across eight counties, with authorities linking Groff to the illegal production of 31 firearms, including ghost guns. As Groff begins a three-year probation period following his release, he acknowledges his past mistakes, stating, “I was involved in some bad things, drugs and guns,” and expresses a commitment to live lawfully moving forward.
