Minnesota Keeps Shotgun-Only Deer Zone in 2025

Minnesota’s shotgun-only deer hunting zone will remain unchanged through the 2025 season, but hunters can expect new regulations to take effect in 2026. Under the upcoming law, hunters across the state will generally be allowed to use either legal rifles or shotguns during the deer hunting season, increasing flexibility for those engaging in the sport.

Currently, only counties within the designated shotgun zone can choose to stay shotgun-only and will have the opportunity to pass local ordinances regarding firearm types. This shift is particularly noteworthy for hunters in counties where all firearms are allowed, as they will not have restrictions based on the new regulations. For detailed maps and diverse hunting regulations, hunters can refer to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ resources available online.
