A man allegedly armed with a knife is fatally shot by Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies during a traffic stop in San Jose, following a prolonged standoff that lasted over two hours. Deputies initiated the stop near Fruitdale and Leigh avenues, where the driver displayed erratic behavior and refused commands, ultimately barricading himself inside his vehicle.
Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, including the involvement of a psychiatric emergency response team, the man exited the car with a knife and charged at deputies, leading to the shooting. He was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead later that evening. San Jose Police are conducting the investigation, with forthcoming details expected on Tuesday.
