Grand Chute Man Sentenced for Erb Park Shooting Incident

A Grand Chute man, Tyrese Simmons, is sentenced to three years in prison for firing a gun into the air at Erb Park in Appleton on June 25, 2024. The 21-year-old pleaded no contest to charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, leading to a conviction that ultimately dismissed additional charges through a plea agreement.

The incident, captured on video, shows Simmons speaking with two individuals before he brandished the firearm and discharged it into the sky, all while strangers fled the scene. Judge Emily Lonergan’s sentencing on October 27 means Simmons will serve this new sentence consecutively to a previous 2½-year sentence for another felony firearm conviction, raising questions about the implications of illegal gun use and public safety in the community.
