The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with Suffern Police Department, is set to host a gun buyback event on Saturday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Leo Lydon Community Center. This initiative invites community members to anonymously surrender functioning and non-functioning firearms in exchange for prepaid gift cards, with compensation amounts ranging from $25 for non-functioning items up to $500 for assault rifles.
District Attorney Tom Walsh emphasizes that removing unwanted firearms from circulation is critical for enhancing community safety and mitigating the risk of gun violence. Participants are instructed to transport guns unloaded and stored safely in their vehicles, with law enforcement handling the collection on-site. With no limit to the number of firearms surrendered, this event represents a proactive effort to foster a safer environment in Suffern.
