The Michigan Senate has passed bipartisan legislation to increase hunting and fishing license fees, marking the first such increase in a decade. This initiative is projected to raise approximately $30 million to help address significant revenue shortages in the Michigan Department of Natural Resources due to inflation and declining participation in outdoor activities.
Senate Bill 276 not only adjusts license fees but also offers discounts for seniors and youth, and reduces the price of an antlerless deer license to just $5. With this new funding, the DNR will enhance fish stocking, habitat improvement, and other conservation efforts aimed at protecting the state’s natural resources. The bill now awaits consideration in the Michigan House, promising improvements for both hunters and anglers across the state.
