2nd Protester Sues Las Vegas Police for Excessive Force

A second protester from the June anti-ICE demonstration in Las Vegas has filed a lawsuit against the police, alleging excessive force and violations of her First Amendment rights during her arrest. Karlin Martinez claims her livestreaming of the protest was met with unnecessary aggression by officers, including a comment from Sgt. Frederick Oliveri telling her to “go back to L.A.” before she was taken to the ground.

The lawsuit highlights that Martinez was arrested after multiple peaceful interactions with police and alleges that the officers had targets based on her association with other protesters. This legal action follows a similar lawsuit from local resident Kathleen Cavalaro, amplifying concerns about police tactics during civil demonstrations. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has stated that its Internal Affairs Bureau is investigating the incident.
