Chicago residents have expressed alarm as these unrelenting tactics have turned neighborhoods into scenes of confrontation, with reports of armed federal agents using tear gas during encounters. Experts warn that this aggressive enforcement model, which has sparked criticisms similar to those used at the U.S.-Mexico border, could set a national precedent for immigration policy under the Trump administration. “What we’re seeing now is what the rest of the nation can expect,” said Fred Tsao from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.
