A Granite City man, Ruben A. Vasques, is facing serious charges for allegedly assaulting an individual with a firearm and stealing a circular saw during the incident. On October 20, 2025, Vasques, 31, reportedly brandished a Smith & Wesson SD40, threatening the victim and unlawfully possessing the loaded weapon without a valid Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card.
The Granite City Police Department has filed multiple charges against Vasques, including aggravated assault and theft, both classified as Class A misdemeanors. Following his arrest, he was granted pretrial release with stringent conditions, including no contact with the victim and surrendering any firearms in his possession. This case raises concerns about firearm safety and the regulations surrounding weapon possession in the community.
