New Online Hub for Firearm Injury Prevention Launched

The American Medical Association (AMA) has launched a new online resource hub aimed at preventing firearm injuries and promoting gun safety, a significant initiative in a community like Vallejo, which faces high rates of gun violence. With Solano County reporting 47.2 firearm injuries and fatalities per 100,000 residents between 2016 and 2022—substantially higher than the state average—the need for effective prevention strategies has never been more pressing.

This digital hub provides medical professionals with tools, including conversation guides and educational materials, to engage patients in discussions about safe firearm storage and injury prevention. Such resources facilitate compassionate, nonjudgmental dialogues essential for reducing the impact of firearm injuries—which are the leading cause of death for American children and teens—while fostering community healing and equity.
