In response to recent gun violence in the Tates Creek area, volunteers from One Lexington are providing critical support to local students, offering food and emotional assistance as temperatures drop. volunteer Kenya Ballard, who has personally experienced the impacts of such violence, emphasizes the importance of creating a safe space for youth to express their fears and anxieties during these troubling times.
Every Monday and Wednesday until December 1, volunteers will distribute meals and engage with students near Tates Creek schools, aiming to foster connections and alleviate stress. Ballard notes that these efforts are not just about immediate support; they also reflect a deeper investment in the community’s future, as she encourages children to open up about their experiences.
