Connecticut Attorney General William Tong is addressing serious public safety concerns by warning the gun manufacturer Sturm, Ruger & Co. about their semi-automatic RXM pistols, which can reportedly be converted into fully automatic weapons using machine gun conversion devices. This comes three months after the state enacted the Firearms Industry Responsibility Act (FIRA), allowing civil actions against gun industry players who fail to implement safety measures to prevent such dangerous modifications.
In his letter, Tong highlights alarming data, stating that 53 machine gun conversion devices were recovered by the Hartford Police, with incidents tied to violent crime across Connecticut. He emphasizes Ruger’s potential legal liabilities, urging the company to modify its products to enhance safety, as data shows these easily modified pistols are already implicated in high-profile criminal activities, including shootings that have claimed innocent lives.
