An Elba, Minnesota woman, Ava Leone Kock, 65, is declared incompetent to stand trial for allegedly firing several shots at her neighbor, an act that has escalated to charges of attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. District Court Judge Dwight D. Luhmann made the ruling following an incident on August 12, 2025, in which Kock reportedly claimed to have shot at her neighbor due to unfounded fears over her neighbor’s activities.
The neighbor, who was not directly hit but suffered injuries from bullet fragments, took cover in her vehicle and called for help. Investigators later found Kock’s rifle and .22 caliber shell casings hidden in her apartment planter, raising questions about her mental state and motivations. A review hearing is scheduled for January 15, providing a next step in a case that highlights the intersection of mental health and legal accountability.
