An Akron police officer shot a man in an incident involving a firearm on Tuesday evening, following reports of a disturbance in a parking lot on Albrecht Avenue. Witnesses indicated that the man, who appeared to be intoxicated, was threatening others with a gun, leading the officer to make a “split-second decision” in response to the situation.
The injured man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and has been uncooperative with authorities since the incident. The officer involved, a four-year veteran of the law enforcement field, is currently on paid administrative leave as the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducts a standard inquiry into the officer-involved shooting.
