Byron Watson, the suspect in the November 7 robbery of a Fidelity Bank branch in Slidell, has surrendered to authorities after barricading himself in a home in Hollygrove. The standoff, which began shortly before noon, ended peacefully when Watson emerged with his hands up, following the deployment of heavily armed FBI and local police units outside the residence.
Watson, 36, was identified as the bank robber who entered the branch dressed in a gray tracksuit and using a cane, but quickly fled without a limp. Law enforcement commented on his apparent use of a disability as a ruse to commit the robbery. He is currently on federal probation for a previous bank robbery and could face significant penalties as he is set to be prosecuted in federal court.
