Authorities confirm that Michael Duarte, a popular food influencer known as FoodWithBearHands, was shot and killed by a Texas deputy after allegedly threatening officers in Castroville on November 8. Deputies responded to reports of a man with a knife acting erratically, and upon arrival, Duarte reportedly charged at a deputy while yelling, “I’m going to kill you,” prompting the officer to fire her weapon.
Duarte was pronounced dead after being taken to University Hospital, despite his family’s earlier characterization of his passing as a “horrible accident.” The 34-year-old content creator had over two million followers across social media platforms, celebrated for his barbecue and grilling videos. As an investigation into the shooting continues, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office has not clarified whether the incident was recorded on body camera.
