A Kansas man, Brian Baker, is sentenced to five years in federal prison for his role in a firearms trafficking operation that funneled guns into Connecticut. Baker’s illegal activities included utilizing straw purchasers to acquire at least 73 firearms, which were subsequently shipped through the U.S. Mail to associates in Connecticut, including significant quantities of illegal narcotics.
Investigators uncovered the operation during controlled purchases, eventually leading to multiple arrests on May 19, 2023. The operation involved intricate planning, with firearms linked to serious crimes, including a homicide involving a juvenile in California. So far, law enforcement has recovered approximately 34 of the trafficked firearms, raising significant concerns about gun violence and trafficking in the region.
