A 27-year-old gunman opened fire on two Miami police officers early Thursday, leaving them wounded before he barricaded himself inside a home in the Allapattah neighborhood. Following hours of tense negotiations and an exchange of gunfire, the suspect, identified as Mason Triana, was found dead, though it remains unclear whether he was shot by police or died by suicide.
The confrontation began when officers responded to reports of gunfire, ultimately resulting in one officer shot in the knee and another in the ankle. Both officers are currently in stable condition and are recovering. Triana had a criminal history but had never been convicted, with police noting a possible connection to a domestic dispute as the reason for the initial shooting.
