Law enforcement officers arrest a suspect following a lengthy police pursuit that began in Buena Park and ended with a shooting on Interstate 5 in Oceanside early Saturday morning. The pursuit, which was initiated by Buena Park police for a traffic violation, involved multiple agencies and spanned over an hour before the suspect, armed with a handgun, fled on foot and barricaded himself in a brush area alongside the freeway.
After several hours of noncompliance and negotiations, officers engaged the suspect, resulting in gunfire; fortunately, no officers sustained injuries. The suspect was ultimately taken into custody around 7:40 a.m. and is being treated for major injuries. During the incident, authorities recovered an unserialized firearm, commonly known as a ghost gun, raising concerns about the accessibility and use of these illegal weapons. The California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the shooting.
