Arkansas Opens 2 Areas for Quail Hunting Permits

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has announced the opening of two Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) for quail hunting permits, set to begin in December 2025. Hunters will have access to the Stone Prairie WMA in Faulkner County and the Little Bayou WMA in Ashley County on designated dates, with applications available online for just $5. This initiative, aimed at managing the state’s rebounding quail populations, follows last year’s successful debut of permitted hunting in these areas.

Permits will allow hunters to bag up to four quail, with hunting days scheduled for December 13-14 and January 10-11 in 2026. The decision to limit hunting is part of a strategy to ensure sustainable wildlife populations, according to Clint Johnson, Quail Program coordinator for the AGFC. Additionally, participants can bring up to four companions, helping to promote family involvement in outdoor activities. Interested hunters should apply early; application windows run from December 1-7 for the first hunt and December 29-January 4 for the second.
