SC House Rejects Senate’s Changes to Carry Bill

South Carolina’s House Republicans vote to reject the Senate’s amended version of the “constitutional carry” bill, maintaining that the original text better represents the wishes of their constituents. House Majority Leader Davey Hiott emphasizes that their decision preserves the intent of the bill, which allows residents to carry firearms without a permit, reflecting a strong commitment to Second Amendment rights.

Governor Henry McMaster expresses disappointment over the House’s decision, arguing that the Senate’s amendments aimed to enhance public safety by imposing stricter penalties on illegal firearm use and promoting responsible ownership. With this rejection, the House plans to send a refined version of the bill back to the Senate in mid-February, as South Carolina considers joining 27 other states that permit permitless carry.
