A newly released survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation indicates that nearly half of all American families have been affected by gun-related incidents. About 54% of respondents reported that they or a family member have experienced such an event, with 21% stating they were personally threatened with a gun. The statistics also reveal that gun violence has devastating effects on communities of color, with 31% of Black adults having witnessed a shooting.
The survey, conducted in the wake of a tragic school shooting in Nashville, highlights that gun-related injuries and fatalities overwhelmingly impact specific demographics. With over 11,500 lives lost to gun violence in the U.S. as of April and 147 mass shootings recorded this year, the need for preventive measures is clear. Approximately 84% of adults reported taking precautions regarding gun violence, yet four in ten live in households where guns are present.
