This holiday season, a West Point woman creates a poignant tradition to honor victims of gun violence, providing solace to grieving families. Kathy Coggins, who lost her grandson Nickolas Harold Doss to a shooting in 2014, joins others at the Annual Christmas Tree Dedication to commemorate their loved ones with personalized ornaments, a gesture aimed at fostering community support and healing during a challenging time.
The event, initiated by Reita Humphries after the loss of her son in 2021, allows families to add new and cherished ornaments each year, symbolizing both remembrance and resilience. As families participate in decorating the tree throughout December, they find comfort in shared experiences and the opportunity to keep their loved ones’ memories alive during the holiday season.
