Cincinnati Council Discusses Funding for Community Grants

The Cincinnati City Council deliberates a significant $850,000 grant aimed at reducing food insecurity and gun violence as part of its upcoming budget. Council Member Meeka Owens highlights this initiative as a testament to the city’s commitment to support nonprofit organizations that provide essential services to the community.

This budget proposal includes funding through the Human Services Fund, which allocates about 1.5% of the city’s General Fund to impactful community projects. Notably, recommendations include the establishment of eight resource hubs with urban farms to assist firearm injury survivors and at-risk youth, in partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and 13 local agencies. The public hearing on these proposals is set for June 3, with budget finalization expected by June 18.
