Researchers from CHOP’s Center for Violence Prevention have implemented standardized questions about firearm access within electronic medical records at its emergency departments. This proactive approach has significantly increased documentation rates over 90% and ensured that 85% of patients with unsafe firearm storage receive crucial safety resources, including cable lock devices. The initiative will soon expand to additional primary care practices, further promoting safe firearm storage among families.
