Calvin Roosevelt Gilbert, 55, is in custody after being arrested for attempted first-degree murder following a shooting incident at McCabe’s bar in DeLand. The confrontation began when Gilbert allegedly offered to buy an unknown man a drink, but after demanding repayment at closing and receiving no payment, he pulled out a firearm and fired a shot at point-blank range, missing the victim entirely.
Police utilized surveillance footage to piece together the events that unfolded early Saturday morning. After fleeing the scene on foot and escaping in a tan 1999 Nissan Quest van, Gilbert was later identified through a photo lineup by the victim. He is currently being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond, and a media conference is scheduled for further updates from law enforcement.
