The family of Megan Keleman, who was shot and killed in a Taco Bell drive-thru in Stow last summer, advocates for a zoning change that would require the addition of escape lanes at drive-thrus. This initiative, dubbed “Megan’s Way Out,” aims to ensure that patrons have a safe option to exit the drive-thru during emergencies, as the existing single-lane setup left Megan unable to flee the scene when a stranger attacked her.
As part of their effort, the Kelemans are working with state lawmakers and local officials to promote this change sooner than the anticipated 2026 city-wide zoning overhaul. They plan to present their proposal at a Stow zoning meeting on June 24, seeking community support while simultaneously addressing mental health and gun safety legislation following the incident that led to their daughter’s death.
