France’s armament industry is on the rise as the ongoing war in Ukraine propels the nation to increase its weapons production significantly. Since the conflict began, French-German defense group KNDS has tripled its output, aiming to deliver 113 Caesar howitzers to Ukraine by 2025, a striking contrast to its pre-war production rate of just one or two units per month.
The transition to a “war economy” has spurred investment in new technologies and infrastructure, with KNDS committing €600 million to expand its Bourges manufacturing plant. Despite notable recruitment challenges and a rapidly growing demand, the company continues to innovate, underlining the critical role of defense in both national and European security landscapes.
